15. Jahre WoW: Blizzard verkauft weitere Server Blades

Wer schon seit einigen Jahren ein Fan von Blizzard Entertainment ist, der kann sich möglicherweise noch daran erinnern, dass die Verantwortlichen dieses Entwicklerstudios in der Vergangenheit bereits mehrfach einige Teile ihrer für den Betrieb von World of Warcraft verwendeten Hardware versteigerten. Dabei handelte es sich dann um die für einzelne Realms verwendeten Server Blades, die aufgrund ihrer direkten Verbindung zu einzelnen Realms sehr beliebt waren und Preise zwischen 200 USD und 2000 USD erzielen konnten. Die durch diese Teile eingenommenen Gewinne wurden dann immer an wohltätige Organisationen weitergeleitet, weshalb Spieler durch den Erwerb dieser Server Blades sowohl einen coolen Fanartikel erhielten als auch etwas Gutes für andere Menschen taten.

Zur Freude vieler Fans haben die Verantwortlichen von Blizzard Entertainment im Verlauf der vergangenen Nacht nun auf ihrer offiziellen Communityseite verkündet, dass sie in der nahen Zukunft weitere Server Blades von World of Warcraft für einen wohltätigen Zweck verkaufen möchten. Laut der Ankündigung für dieses Projekt möchten die Entwickler jeweils am heutigen Freitag, den 13. September 2019 ab 19:00 Uhr und am kommenden Mittwoch, den 20. September 2019 um 02:00 Uhr in der Nacht eine Welle von Server Blades in ihrem nordamerikanischen Gear Store anbieten. Auch wenn Spieler aus Europa in diesem Shop einkaufen dürfen, so müssen Fans außerhalb von Nordamerika aber leider mit hohen Versandkosten und der einen oder anderen Gebühr rechnen. Zusätzlich dazu steht im Moment noch nicht fest, wie teuer diese einzigartigen Fanartikel sein werden und wie viele Artikel dieser Art sie pro Welle anbieten können. Da diese Server Blades allerdings tatsächlich für den Betrieb von WoW verwendet wurden, kann ihre Anzahl nicht sonderlich hoch sein.

Ansonsten sollte an dieser Stelle auch noch erwähnt werden, dass die dieses Mal angebotenen Server Blades nicht auf speziellen Realms basieren. Da sich die Technik im Verlauf der vergangenen Jahre immer weiter entwickelt hat, können die Entwickler mittlerweile mehrere Realms des Spiels auf einem einzigen Blade laufen lassen. Daher können die Spieler keine Server Blades erwerben, die in der Vergangenheit für den Betrieb eines bestimmten Realms von World of Warcraft eingesetzt wurden.

Was die dieses Mal als Ziel für die erzielten Einnahmen ausgewählte wohltätige Organisation betrifft, so möchten die Entwickler von Blizzard Entertainment insgesamt 100% der Gewinne aus diesen Server Blades (abzüglich Kosten für Herstellung und Versand) an Pencils of Promise (PoP) spenden. A:  World of Warcraft realms are hosted on HP BladeSystem, which combines server, storage, network, power, and management capabilities into an integrated system. These blades were part of the hardware that provided the processing power to run the game from 2010-2016.

A. Due to advancements in the technology behind World of Warcraft and the ability to host many realms on one blade, there’s no way to guarantee purchasers will receive a server blade that previously hosted a specific realm they were interested in.

Q: Is the server blade functional?
A:The server blade is not functional and contains no data. This retired HP server blade is intended only to be a unique collector’s item and not a piece of functioning hardware.
